

Performance study of the musical legacy created by Guitar Heroes such as Jimi Hendrix, B.B. Rehearsals: Mondays, 7:00-8:20 PM, MC 040Įnsemble Director: Daniel Duarte Guitar Heroes (2 cr.) The ensemble is for guitarists of all levels (basic, intermediate and advanced), no audition is required. Registration is open for students that have taken guitar courses at IU such as MUS-L 101, 102, 121, 122, Z110 or for guitarists with equivalent experience. Students can register for the All-Campus Guitar Ensemble by adding MUS-X1 (section – All-Campus Guitar Ensemble/1 credit) to their schedule. The ensemble performs a wide variety of musical styles while blending several types of guitars such as classical, acoustic, electric, bass guitar and others. The ensemble is ideal for students that want share their musical talent around campus and join IU’s large guitar community.

The All-Campus Guitar Ensemble is formed by guitarists of all levels and open to all IU students regardless of their major. MUS MUS-X1 – All-Campus Guitar Ensemble (1 cr.) Individual classical guitar lessons, 50 minutes each week.

MUS L100/L700/Z110/Z710 – Individual classical guitar lessons (2cr.) This course is intended as an expansion on contemporary popular guitar styles and techniques learned in L101. Prerequisites: L101 and/or ability to read music and play chord structures proficiently. This course is intended as an introduction to popular guitar styles and techniques by building rudimentary guitar playing skills: basic open and bar chords, learning how to read tabs and music, and learning basic fingerstyle. Prerequisites: L121 or L101 and/or ability to read music and play chord structures proficiently. IUB A&H GenEd credit. This course is an expansion on contemporary popular guitar styles and techniques learned in L121, and more in-depth survey on specific styles and guitar performances and advancement on critical listening skills acquired in L121 in a lecture setting. MUS L122 – Intermediate Guitar Class and Styles (3cr.) IUB A&H GenEd credit. Students learn this (1) by building rudimentary guitar playing skills in a classroom lab setting (playing basic open and bar chords in songs, learning how to read tabs and music, and learning basic fingerstyle), and (2) by learning about guitar history/styles and developing critical listening skills through online modules. This course is as an introduction to popular guitar styles and techniques. MUS L121 – Beginning Guitar Class and Styles (3cr.) IUB A&H GenEd credit.
